1 comment"I don't take money from federal lobbyists. I don't take money from PACs. In reducing special interest lobbying, I alone of the candidates here have actually taken away the power of lobbyists. A law I passed this year says to lobbyists, if you are taking money from anybody and putting it together and then giving it to a member of Congress, that has to be disclosed. Ultimately what I'd like to see is a system of public financing of campaigns, and I'm a cosponsor of the proposal."

I think this is a very important step in moving forward--taking away the power of special interests by taking away the influence their money can by. If you look at the amount of money Hillary has taken from the NRA, it's actually quite staggering (and rivals most Republican candidates for office). McCain's special interest is the Christian Right and I think this Bush administration is a good illustration of what their influence has wrought.
The more money you take, the less free you become to govern truly for the people. If Hillary or McCain get elected, I think it will be interesting to see how those special interests rear their heads.
